Five years ago, Jeffrey Zuckerman’s wife was diagnosed with late-onset bipolar disorder 30 years into their marriage. Following her fluctuating moods of mania and depression and her subsequent diagnosis, Zuckerman traces the course of their marriage amid her sometimes debilitating illness in his book, Unglued: A Bipolar Love Story.

Posing in front of her pollinator garden in Kingfield, Minneapolis, Melinda Ludwiczak said gardening has been her therapy during COVID-19. A Master Gardener volunteer for the past 20 years, Ludwiczak was looking forward to showing off her lawn for the annual Master Gardener home garden tour (which has since been canceled). Her house was the designated “pollinator station.”

Although opening amid a pandemic and civil unrest was not in the cards for owners Frederick Huballa, Shawn Edwards and Marques Johnson, they still opened their fried chicken business in Uptown, Minneapolis summer 2020. Operating out of a window of a popular club, their restaurant CHX out.

Although the shift to virtual worship has been difficult for most congregations in Southwest, navigating the return to in-person services has been even harder. From worship watch parties to camping trips to not meeting in person at all, different faith groups have taken different approaches. Nearly half of the parishioners at Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church said they weren’t comfortable resuming in-person worship in a July survey.
